The U.S. Geological Survey has determined there is a 72 percent chance of at least one earthquake of magnitude 6.7 or greater striking somewhere in the Bay Area in the next 30 years.
Is your residence earthquake-ready? ABAG (the Association of Bay Area Governments) has an online tool, The Earthquake Home Quiz that helps you identify potential earthquake-related damage to your home. It also lists some actions you can take to make your property safer whether you are in a single-family home, apartment building or mobile home.
ABAG’s Earthquake Field Guide is also helpful. This Guide helps you identify your type of housing and what possible problems your home may have in an earthquake. Check the easy-to-read Guide, take the quiz and follow its recommendations for a safer home.
