Door to Door

The Avenidas Door to Door transportation program goes the extra mile for you with new free services to help seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also offer monitored Lyft rides for medical appointments.

Service Area

Rides and deliveries available in Atherton, East Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Menlo Park, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Carlos, Sunnyvale, and Woodside.

  • Monday – Friday
  • First Pickup 8:15 am
  • Last Pickup 4:00 pm

Ride Service

Most of our volunteer drivers are seniors. During the pandemic, we are offering monitored Lyft rides.

Avenidas Door to Door is not providing volunteer rides at this time. Most of our volunteer drivers are seniors. We are providing monitored Lyft rides to and from medical appointments in our regular service area during our regular operating hours. (See Lyft’s Coronavirus Safety page for their safety precautions.)

Cost: amount charged by Lyft plus a $3 service fee, invoiced monthly. To schedule, call 650-289-5411 at least 48 hours in advance and leave a message.

New Door-to-Door Services

Essential Deliveries

Free delivery of your groceries, prescriptions, and essential toiletries. (You order them: we pick them up.)

Check-in Phone Calls

Free! A Door-to-Door volunteer will call you to see how you’re doing and find out whether you need medication, groceries, or other essential supplies delivered.

Library Pick-Up & Drop-Off

Free! Check out books and movies from the library and we’ll pick them up for you. When you’re finished, let us know and we’ll return them.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Free! As part of Operation Save Our Seniors Avenidas volunteers distribute donated masks, gowns, and gloves to seniors and senior care facilities.

  • Go Go Grandparent at (855) 464-6872 does something similar to Door to Door and schedules rides for you using Lyft and Uber.

  • SamTrans is introducing Ride Now, a new subsidized taxi service for seniors and people with disabilities, on August 1, 2020.
  • For help with transport in San Mateo County, call Peninsula Rides. Dial 1-800-660-4287 and then press 4 for assistance.
