On Saturday, March 12, the Avenidas Rainbow Walking Group experienced the Creative Attention Exhibit at the Palo Alto Art Center. What an amazing day! Our group met at the art center where we were graciously welcomed by Karen Kienzle, director of the Art Center, and Marcel Pardo Ariza, who is one of the artists featured in the exhibit.
Marcel is also the instructor of our upcoming Showing Our History collage art workshop.
Outside of the entrance to the art center is a magnificent collage of LGBTQ community leaders that Marcel created. Marcel explained their process both creatively and practically to the group as we looked onto their project in amazement.
Once inside the art center, Karen Kienzle led the group on a personal tour of the rest of the exhibit. The artwork in the exhibit was captivating, intriguing, and inspiring. The group loved every minute of the show.
We finished our visit at the art center with a walking tour of the various trees on the grounds in honor of Arbor Week. We had a lot of fun that did not end at the art center.
We completed our day with a meal at the Creamery in downtown Palo Alto. Great food, conversation, and company all around. One participant wrote
“I wanted to thank you for Saturday because it was the most fun I’ve had on any of the outings. The tree walk around the library was fascinating, and the Creamery was pitch-perfect for the day.”
