From the Center for Elders’ Independence.
Since you reached out to California Legislators last week, The Senate voted to reject the proposal that would result in eliminating Adult Day Health Care Centers!
The Assembly is meeting on Thursday, June 4 at 10 a.m. to discuss the 2020 state budget.
Governor Newsom must sign a budget by June 15th and it’s not clear what will happen in budget negotiations between the Assembly, Senate and Governor.
The threat is not over.
Just 4 weeks ago, Governor Newsom praised Adult Day Health Centers for keeping vulnerable seniors safe during COVID-19.
Sheltering in place is the #1 tool we have to fight the Coronavirus presently. There is a complete and puzzling disconnect between what we know is working and what Governor Newsom’s May Revised Budget is proposing. These cuts will go into effect on July 1.

What to Say or Write
I am (NAME) and I live in (TOWN/CITY). I am concerned/outraged to learn that Legislators are considering eliminating funding to some essential senior services.
Close to 50,000 frail older adults in California live at home and avoid nursing homes with help from Community-based adult day health care programs support.
Adult day health care programs are keeping our frail seniors out of nursing homes where seniors are dying from COVID-19 every day.
I urge you to Reject the Proposal to eliminate Adult Day Health Centers and other services for seniors in the May 2020-21 Budget Revision. The State Senate Budget Subcommittee has already rejected the proposal. Please follow their lead.
Do not balance the budget deficit caused by COVID-19 on the backs of those older Californians who need the most help.
Signed, (Name)
