Medical Equipment Loan Closet Now Open!

We are pleased to announce that we have reopened our medical equipment loan closet with some new safety procedures.

To borrow equipment, call 650-289-5400 or email with your request.

You will be contacted by staff to let you know whether or not we have the item(s) you need. If the items are available, we’ll schedule an appointment for pick-up.

Please note: our building remains closed and we are mostly working from home. Pick-up times are limited, and we ask for your flexibility. Please do NOT come to the center without an appointment.

All equipment will be sanitized prior to lending it, but we do recommend that you sanitize it again once you get it home.

Equipment is free to borrow, although wheelchairs require a $25 deposit paid in advance of pick-up.

If you have previously borrowed equipment you would like to return, please contact us at 650-289-5400 or . We will respond to schedule a drop-off time.

Please thoroughly clean equipment prior to returning. Please do not drop off equipment without prior authorization.

Escape the smoke this week!

The Palo Alto community cooling center is opening its doors again this week, September 14–18, to provide much-needed relief from the heat and poor air quality due to regional wildfires.

The cooling center is located at the Mitchell Park Community Center in the El Palo Alto Room, and is open from 10am – 6pm.

Flu Shot Season 2020

Getting your annual flu shot is important and it’s especially important for older adults and people with underlying health conditions. As you know, Avenidas buildings will remain closed at least through the end of 2020. We will not be hosting our annual Flu Shot Clinic this year at any of our sites (450 Bryant, Cubberley, or the Rose Kleiner Center).

However, there are still many options available for getting your vaccine:

  • Make an appointment with your primary care provider.
  • Pharmacies, as well as grocery stores and retailers with pharmacies (such as Target), offer the flu shot. Medicare Part B will usually cover the cost.
  • Medicare Advantage plan subscribers may need to get their vaccine from an in-network provider.

You should always check with your insurance to find out where you can get your flu shot and ensure it will be covered.

Discounted “Y” Passes Still Available

Discounted day passes to the Palo Alto Y are still available for Avenidas and Avenidas Village members!

The usual price for a day pass is $20, but you can purchase them for $10 each.  They can be used to access all activities at the Y on the day of purchase, including fitness classes, gym equipment, and the pool. 

In addition, the joining fee ($90) will be waived for members who would like to join the Y.

There is no limit to the number of day passes you may purchase, but you must purchase them on the day of use and they are only for Avenidas and Avenidas Village members.

Please contact the Avenidas Front Desk (650-289-5400) or Dawn Greenblat (Village Members) prior to going to the Y for your first day pass.  We will give you a letter verifying your Avenidas or Avenidas Village membership that you can present to purchase your pass.
