Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center Nurse Navigator Connie Beech felt compelled to record a video urging the State of Calirornia not to cut funding for Adult Day Health Centers.
Transcript
Hi, my name is Connie and I’m a nurse navigator for an adult day health center in Mountain View called Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center. We serve the frail elderly, people with disabilities, and people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. We’re not a senior center.
We have nurses who oversee medical needs and dispense medications. We have social workers who help with community resources and counseling for participants and families. We have a comprehensive activities department that provides wonderful enriching programs every day for our participants.
Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center is our participants’ very lifeline. In my two years here, I have seen nurses, teachers, homemakers, engineers, physicists, mayors, and veterans of multiple wars. These people have been taxpaying, contributing citizens of the State of California. I think they deserve our care in the remaining years of their lives.
If these [Adult Day Health Centers] are eliminated, there will be increased costs for emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and nursing home admissions—if you can find a bed. I urge you, please keep the Adult Day Health Centers in the California State Budget. Thank you.
If you’d like to record your own video, we’ll be happy to share it here. But first, make sure to let Governor Newsom and your state legislators know how you feel!
