Internet Basics

June 21 , 10:30 am – 11:45 am PDT
This workshop helps participants differentiate digital technologies encountered in their daily lives in relation to devices, software, and the internet. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of touchscreen motions vs. voice commands vs. mouse controls. Examples are: what are the differences between the different clouds? What are the differences between Wi-Fi, mobile, internet, routers, gateways, and Mesh? Which browser is the best to use to browse the internet? Do I swipe right or left, up or down on my phone?
Part B is a practicum workshop where participants and instructors can delve deeper into challenges they encountered using their own devices and in their lives related to the workshop Part A. Participants will share what they learned from the “homework” assigned in Part A.
We’re excited to offer a new series Technology Workshops in collaboration with the digital coaching company AsKevin. Workshops are offered as a two-week mini-series. Part A is information and Part B is a hand-on lab, where AsKevin staff and volunteers will be available to help students, using their own devices, delve deeper into what they learned the previous week. You must attend Part A to participate in Part B.
