Proper sleep has been linked to a host of health benefits, including better memory, emotional regulation, and a reduced risk of chronic disease. Yet, getting to sleep and staying asleep can be challenging, especially as we age. In this presentation by gerontologist Sally Duplantier, we will explore how sleep changes as we age and why we are more prone to disorders like sleep apnea and frequent waking. We’ll also discuss risk factors for poor sleep and 9 strategies for improving your sleep. Walk away with 1-2 practical steps you can take for a better night’s rest.
About the Presenter
Sally Duplantier, MS, is a gerontologist and Healthspan educator with a mission to help older adults live their best lives longer through better lifestyle choices and health equity. The focus of her research is ways in which nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, and social engagement impact Healthspan—the number of years we are free of chronic disease and disability.
Sally has a Master of Science in gerontology from the University of Southern California and a certificate in nutrition science from Stanford. She is currently completing a graduate certificate in qualitative research at Indiana University. Sally is a featured speaker for organizations like Stanford University and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine on topics related to healthy aging. Her research is found in the peer-reviewed journals Nutrients and The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
