Belonging: a Creative Attention Intergenerational Interview Project

December 30, 2021 , 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm PST
Avenidas is partnering with the Palo Alto Art Center to offer an opportunity for the Art Center’s Teen Leadership team to interview Avenidas Older Adults about their place of “belonging” in a community for the new project, Creative Attention.
Please join us for a fun afternoon of chatting with the teens about what it means to feel affinity for a place or group! Teen participants will finalize the project by illustrating a portrait of the older adult they interview.
Interviews will take place in a group setting at 450 Bryant Street.
Overall Project Description
Creative Attention: Art and Community Restoration is a multifaceted project that engages the community, showcasing the unique perspectives of artists and the transformative power of the arts in our current age of anxiety.
Christine Wong Yap, Creative Attention Artist-in-Residence, will engage the Palo Alto Art Center Teen Leadership team and community members to collect stories of belonging, with outcomes adapted from and inspired by the following forms, materials, and techniques:
- Maps
- Quotes rendered in calligraphy
- Interactive maps to which the public can add their places of belonging
- Comic-book-style portraits of contributors with speech bubbles featuring their quotes
- A zine or book with narratives of belonging by the public.
