Avenidas Hike: Golden Gate Park Loop

Please join us for a refreshing 6.5 mile/347’ elevation trail that weaves through the scenic landscapes of iconic Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Together, we’ll explore the hidden gems that lie within the park. We will start at windy and rugged Ocean Beach, visit the exceptional 1936-1937 WPA era murals, the Beach Chalet Soccer Fields, circle Stow Lake, pass Lloyd Lake, Spreckels Lake, the Bison Paddock, where these magnificent creatures roam freely, the Queen Wilhelmina Flower Garden and end at the Dutch Windmill.
Note: Dress in layers to prepare for fog and/or sunshine. Most of the paths are paved or hard dirt so athletic shoes should suffice. Please come prepared with water, snacks, sunscreen, hat and any necessary medications. Please assess your fitness level before participating in this event.
Optional lunch: location at the beginning/end of the hike at the Park Chalet Brewery & Restaurant with beer brewed on premises and outdoor/indoor seating. For a romantic ocean view and SF seafood fare walk upstairs to the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant. Indoor seating only.
The Avenidas Fitness Hike Club offers small group (12 max, including leaders) hikes twice a month for those interested in moderate to moderately challenging hikes. Hikes will be 5 to 8 miles long with a cumulative elevation gain of up to 1200 feet. Hikers should honestly evaluate their abilities before registering. Poles are recommended. No dogs. Lunch is on your own.

How to Participate
Parking/Trailhead: We will meet at 9:20 AM, and the hike will begin promptly at 9:30 AM inside the building in the first floor lounge area to the left as you enter. Restrooms and water fountains are located in the Visitor’s Center lobby inside on the ground floor. There is additional parking across the street on the ocean side.
