How You Can Help
Avenidas provides low-cost or free services to over 6,500 older adults and their families each year. Because we never want fees to prevent someone from getting the help they need, we welcome donations from members of the community. In fact, a significant portion of Avenidas' support comes from individuals and their gifts. With your help, we can keep our services available to all.
Perception vs. Reality
Although we serve an area that is widely considered to be affluent, a significant number of older adults have lived here since long before the area became Silicon Valley. In fact, many local seniors struggle to make ends meet because of the area's high—and rising—cost of living. For example:
- Approximately 30 percent of households aged 75 or older have incomes less than $25,000 per year.
- More than 50 percent of households aged 75 or older have incomes below $50,000 per year.
Your Gifts Change Lives
Your dollars make it possible to provide:
- Adult day health care at Avenidas Rose Kleiner Senior Day Health Center
- One-to-one counseling for seniors struggling with depression or grief
- Assistance for helping seniors find affordable housing, skilled nursing, or other care resources
- Reverse mortgage counseling
- Brain fitness classes to help maintain and improve cognitive processes
- Van transportation for seniors to the grocery store and medical appointments
- Handyman services to make homes safer and more accessible
- Health screenings for skin cancer, dental problems, hearing loss, and more
