Transportation

Avenidas offers a variety of ways to get you where you need to go! Whether you want a ride to your doctor or to go pick up groceries, we can help. Contact Transportation Director (650) 289-5425 with any questions you might have or to enroll in a transportation program.

Van Transport

Providing Rides to the Supermarket, La Comida Dining Room and Rose Kleiner Senior Day Health Center

RoadRunners

Avenidas provides assisted, door-to-door transportation in modern, wheelchair-accommodating vans with courteous, friendly and responsible drivers. Using our service enables you to socialize with others, enjoy a regular hot meal, or do weekly grocery shopping.

If you live in Palo Alto, you can ride the van up to five times per week to go to the La Comida lunch located at Avenidas, and once per week to go grocery shopping at Safeway and Trader Joe’s in the Palo Alto/Menlo Park area.

If you are a participant at Rose Kleiner Senior Day Health Center in Mountain View, you can take the van there daily.

Geographic Service Areas

Transportation service for La Comida and grocery shopping is limited to residents of Palo Alto. The service area covered for participants attending the Rose Kleiner Senior Day Health Center includes Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, Stanford, and parts of Los Altos and Mountain View.

RoadRunners Avenidas

Providing Rides for Seniors Using Volunteer Drivers

Van Transport

Volunteer drivers take seniors anywhere they want to go during weekday working hours. RoadRunners Avenidas is a partnership with RoadRunners El Camino Hospital. You may schedule a ride for any purpose, such as trips to medical appointments, hair salons, or to the bank. Rides are provided for any location within a ten-mile radius of Middlefield Road and Oregon Expressway.

Simply call (650) 940-7016 to schedule a ride, 24 to 48 hours in advance. Give your name, address, telephone number, and the time and place of pickup and delivery. Pickup times are between 8:00 am to 3:45 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. A volunteer driver will pick you up at the appointed time and take you where you need to go. The driver will return at the appropriate time to take you back home. These drivers are courteous and helpful.

Fees range from $4.50 to $17.00 one way, depending on the distance. You will be billed by El Camino Hospital at the end of the month. No cash payment is required at the time of the ride.

Currently we have volunteer drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays only. On Tuesdays, you may still obtain a ride, but it would be at a higher fee, because those rides are provided through El Camino Hospital drivers and the distance measured from El Camino Hospital rather than from Palo Alto.
