Counseling
At Avenidas, we understand that life can be challenging at times. The aging process can bring many changes, some of which are easier to handle than others. You might be facing the loss of a loved one, decreased mobility, or financial concerns, among other things. Counseling can be very beneficial.
As well as counseling for older adults, Avenidas also offers counseling services for caregivers and adult children. If you have an aging parent, you might be experiencing conflicting emotions as you take on more care and responsibility for your parent. There might be problems with siblings that you want help sorting out, or just a chance to vent your feelings and decide the best course of action.
These are all reasons why Avenidas offers counseling. You meet one-on-one with a trained, compassionate professional with whom you can talk and work through troubling or private concerns. Consider the counselor a safe and friendly ear—someone you can use as a sounding board.
Numerous people have benefitted from counseling at Avenidas. You might consider using our counseling service to:
- Feel better about yourself
- Feel more at peace
- Feel more connected with others
- Reduce stress
- Work through problems
- Identify your goals
- Learn new behaviors and responses to help you achieve those goals
- Understand your own thoughts, feelings, and responses better
- Understand your loved ones better
- Work towards greater self-fulfillment
Consultations for Families with Aging Loved Ones
As our parents age, we have concerns about their physical health, their judgment and mental health, and their ability to do things for themselves that used to come easily for them. Are they still able to shop for themselves, can they handle their finances alone, or could they use some additional help with some of their daily or weekly activities? It’s always good to plan ahead, and one way to do that is to talk with trained and experienced professionals in the field of aging. Our clinical social worker can help you:
- Clarify your concerns about your parents and aging
- Establish priorities
- Develop a plan of action
- Direct you to appropriate resources
Whether your parent or older relative lives in Palo Alto or across the country, a 50-minute consultation can relieve the stress of parent care. Consultation fee: $125.
