Avenidas offers a wide variety of groups designed to offer a safe and supportive environment in which people can meet to discuss questions and concerns. The following are health-related groups.
The Better Breathers Group
Facilitated by Estelle Coleman
Sponsored by Breathe California
The Better Breathers Group is designed for people with chronic lung disease such as asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, and their families. This supportive environment fosters education through guest speakers, group discussions, and an open sharing of ideas and concerns. The information gained can help you better understand your condition and may help improve your quality of life. Open to all ages.
Informed Decisions: Prostate Cancer Group
Facilitated by Dr. Leon Kaseff
The Avenidas Prostate Group, Informed Decisions, meets bi-monthly and provides a forum for discussion with expertise provided by physicians from the Urology Departments of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Stanford Hospital and Clinics.
Parkinson’s Support Group
Sponsored by the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA)
The group provides a supportive environment in which persons with Parkinson’s, caregivers, family members, and friends can share some of the difficult, and at times, discouraging issues involved in living with Parkinson’s. It also provides information about Parkinson’s and periodically has speakers on topics that are of interest to the group such as new research, medications, and coping strategies.

For individuals who have experienced lifecycle transitions, including illness, career change, retirement, moving, or loss of a loved one. The group meets for 10 weeks and is open to both men and women. Pre-screening interview required. Call 289-5453 for more information.
