Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP)
The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program provides free assistance with Medicare benefits, eligibility, insurance supplements, HMOs, legal appeals, and other health insurance issues. It offers objective information to help seniors, their caregivers, and other people on Medicare make good decisions about their health care coverage. Long-term care insurance counseling is not available. This service is for Santa Clara County residents only.
Advance Health Care Directives
A California law gives you the ability to ensure that your health care wishes are known and considered if you become unable to make these decisions yourself. An Advance Health Care Directive is the best way to make sure that this happens. There is a $5 fee.
Health Information Research Service
Florie Berger, Research Librarian
This free service provides you with information about your health questions. The librarian will be available to respond to your inquiries and gather relevant materials for you to take home, or arrange for materials to be mailed to your home.
Durable Equipment Loan Closet
We offer free, short-term loans of medical equipment, such as walkers, portable commodes, crutches, wheelchairs and bath benches. Please note: for wheelchairs, a $25 deposit is required and we ask that equipment be returned clean.
