Something to ponder
"Riding the Roller Coaster with Lewy Body Dementia" will be presented by Jim Whitworth, Co-Founder, Lewy Body Dementia Association & Helen Whitworth, MS, BSN, at Avenidas on Tuesday, June 8, from 2-3:30 pm. Lewy body dementia shares characteristics with both Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Like Alzheimer's, it causes confusion. Like Parkinson's, it can result in rigid muscles, slowed movement and tremors. But the most striking symptom of Lewy body dementia may be visual hallucinations, which can be one of the first signs of the disorder. Lewy body dementia is the second leading cause of degenerative dementia in the elderly behind Alzheimer's. Please join us for this event where the Whitworths will discuss their experiences with the disease along with the history, pathology, diagnosis, symptoms, management, treatment and support options. To register, please contact the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) at (650) 724-6090 or rriddle@stanford.edu.

Risk factors for osteoporosis include aging, being female, low body weight, low sex hormones such as during menopause, smoking, and some medications. There are no symptoms of this bone disease until you fracture a bone.
